Ferdie Woodman
Biography
Ferdie Woodman is a young man in his early thirties who grew up in a cabin on the outskirts of Little Oak Village. He has two younger siblings, Cathy and Joseph. Ferdie spends most of his time in his self-made lab, where he researches bacteria, viruses, fungi and algae. He calls himself the microbiologist of the century. He assists the local food shops by creating new ways to use microbes, such as yeast, to improve their recipes.
Appearance
Ferdie, a member of the Woodman family, has a youthful appearance with acne all over his face, which he complains is difficult to get rid of. He has a naturally brown hairline, but he genetically modified it to grow red. At an estimated height of six feet, he is the tallest in his family, but his slender build suggests he has more brains than muscle. His slim face is characterized by a large rosy nose at the center, a broad smile, and eyes that appear the same shade of green as the cedar trees surrounding his home. Ferdie wears a small black pendant-like earring in one ear to match Joseph's, and he is often seen in his white lab coat, which typically has stains on the sleeves and pockets. He likes to wear thick woollen sweaters underneath, with his favourite being a light blue turtleneck. He's not a fan of jeans, so instead, he chooses to wear brown slacks paired with his old-fashioned boots.
Backstory
The name Ferdie stems from Ferdinand, his late father. Being the eldest son, he was named after his father as a form of passing the torch to be the next leader of the Woodman family. This name means a lot to Ferdie because it's the only thing he has left of his father. When Ferdie was a young boy, his father died in a hunting accident, and the incident was never discussed in great detail. A couple of years after his father's passing, his mother fell ill with pneumonia and could not take care of the three small children anymore. Ferdie being the eldest, felt responsible for taking care of his two young and vulnerable siblings. This is how he grew up to be the logical thinker he is today. Unfortunately, he did not get a chance to enjoy much of his childhood but did try his hardest to let his siblings stay in their childhood bubble.
Ferdie's teenage years passed by quickly, as he was among the first to attend the local school. The school was established due to a rise in the number of children born around the time Ferdie was a teenager. His class consisted of only a handful of students, not all of whom were the same age. Since this was just a rough draft and the funding wasn't enough for high-level education, it was more like a study group in which kids could gather and discuss new ideas and discoveries. Ferdie was very excited about this because he already had a lot of knowledge to share about his experiments and discoveries in nature. He loved exploring the woods next to the small town.
